“Dimitrie Cantemir” Christian University awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Mr. Timothy Lee Walberg, U.S. Congressman, Chairman of the Committee on Education and the Workforce
The Senate of the University, meeting in an extraordinary session, decided to award the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Mr. Timothy Lee Walberg, a prestigious personality, deeply involved in improving the human condition and the progress of humanity by encouraging creative work.
As a result, on May 31, 2016, at the “Dimitrie Cantemir” Christian University, during the solemn session, the ceremony of conferring the high title to Mr. Timothy Lee Walberg, Member of the US Congress, Chairman of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, took place.
Prof. Prof. Dr. Cristiana Cristureanu, Rector of the University, read the academic Laudatio which highlighted the contribution of Mr. Timothy Lee WALBERG, a prominent personality in the fields of politics, culture and religion. An advocate for children’s right to life and education and a family activist, he became a candidate for a seat in the Michigan State Legislature, winning election in 1993 and serving as a member until 1999. His efforts were directed towards the realization of institutional development projects for education and the implementation of the concept of social and community responsibility. In 2006, and again in 2010, he ran for and won the Republican Party’s U.S. Congress. In that office, he saw it as his moral duty to encourage creative work, reduce spending and support Michigan families, and increase America’s productive and energy capacity. She has also been involved in upholding the Constitution on the protection of young women against exploitation and trafficking, the right to education, lower taxes and tax caps, and has a legislative initiative as a goal.
The Doctor Doctor Honoris Causa diploma was read in Latin by the President of the University Senate, Prof. Corina-Adriana Dumitrescu.
The academic community of the University appreciated the personality and involvement of Mr. Timothy Lee WALBERG in highlighting the importance of education for the progress of humanity as well as his achievements on the economic, social and political levels.
